Education and qualifications

1977-1979: School of Pharmacy, Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, Mashhad, Iran (80 units out of 200 units were passed)

1982-1985: School of Pharmacy, Tabriz University of Medical Sciences (TUMS), Tabriz, Iran (120 units out of 200 units were passed)

1985: Pharm. D awarded. Pharm. D thesis entitled: The effect of 3,4-diamino- pyridine on Biventer Cervisis Muscle (the project is mainly related to quantitative assay of Ach)

1987-2001: School of biomedical and life Sciences, University of Surrey, Guildford, Surrey, GU2 5XH, UK

2001: PhD degree awarded. PhD thesis entitled: Regulation of CYP3A gene expression in human HepG2 hepatoma cells

Research experience

The following Pharm D and MSc theses were presented under my supervision:

• Measurement of nitrates and nitrites in meat preparations in Mashhad.
• Determination of LC50 of Bee Venom by the use of Brine Shrimp.
• A study of toxic effects of Rifampin on cell Proliferation and cell organelles using MTT method and Electron microscope survey in HepG2 cells.
• A study of toxic effects of Rifampin on cell Proliferation and cell organelles using MTT method and Electron microscope survey in ACHN cells.
• The protective effects of vitamin C and NAC on the toxicity of Rifampin on cell proliferation and cell organelles in HepG2 cells using MTT.
• The protective effects of NAC on the toxicity of Rifampin on cell proliferation and cell organelles in ACHN cells using MTT method and electron microscope survey.
• Monitoring of lead and calcium in pipe drinking water in Mashhad, Iran.
• A study of polymorphism in coumarin 7-hydroxylase (CYP2A6) activity in 300 people of Iranian population
• A study of the toxicity of Artemisia vulgaris, Artemisia bienis, Artemisia anuva and Artemisia absenthium on HepG2 and Hep2 cells using MTT assay method.

The following PhD thesis is taking place under my Supervision:

• Protective effects of crocin on cisplatin-induced renal toxicity.
• Investigation of antiproliferative activity of two isolated flavonoids from Scutellaria litwinowii and underlying apoptosis mechanism in cancer cell lines.
• Evaluation of fetal malformations and possible mechanisms, apoptosis and oxidative stress in pregabalin treated mice.

2003 up to now: School of Pharmacy, MUMS, Mashad, Iran.

The following projects are taking place in companion with my other colleagues:

• A study of polymorphism in coumarin 7-hydroxylase (CYP2A6) activity in 300 people of Iranian population (finished).
• A study of toxic effects of Rifampin on cell proliferation and cell organelles in different cell cultures and the possible protective effects of vitamin C and NAC on these effects (finished).
• Cytotoxicity assessment of methanol extract of Khorasan Artemisia plants in human cell culture and the effect of hepatic metabolism on their toxicity (finished).
• Determination of lead, arsenic, mercury and calcium concentration in drinking water in Mashhad (finished).
• Evaluation of antiproliferative and apoptotic activity of dichloromethan fraction of Scutellaria litwinowii on human myelogenous leukemic cell lines K562 & HL60 (finished).
• Evaluation of the possible mechanism(s) of hemocysteine in pregabaline-induced neural tube defects in mice.
• Effect of rifampin on Staphylococcus aureus in the presence of N-acetylcysteine or ascorbic acid.
• Effect of rifampin and isoniazide on Mycobacterium tuberculosis in the presence of vitamin C or N-acetylcysteine.
• A clinical investigation of the effect of oral vitamin C on the clinical efficacy and hepatotoxicity induced by antitubercular drug therapy.

Professional experience        

1993: Scientific and executive member of the Third National Congress of Toxicology and the First International Workshop for the Poisoning Information Centre in Mashad, Iran.

1990-1996: A member of the Education Council of the University.

1990-1997 & 2001-up to now: School of Pharmacy, MUMS, Mashad, Iran. Lecturing general and clinical pharmacology (hormones), drug information (antibiotics), toxicology (mechanisms of toxicity, risk assessment, drug abuse, industrial and occupational toxicology), and pharmacy training in 22-Bahman pharmacy and drug information centre (school's pharmacy).

2001-2002: Director of research affairs of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences (MUMS), Mashad, Iran.

2003: Director General of executive affairs of 3^rd seminar on Islam's views in Medicine.
